5 simple ways to boost your energy, naturally!

You know the drill – your ‘to-do’ list is never-ending, the kids are hungry and there are a thousand places you need to be! You’re crazy tired and would much rather curl up on the couch with the remote in hand than do everything for everyone. Aarrgghhhh!!!!

Sound familiar?

And while I’m not putting my hand up to babysit for you (I have 4 children of my own!), I can happily share my top 5 tips to give you a burst of energy to get through your day with joy and ease!

1. Breathe
Drop what you are doing and take 5 big, deep breathes in through the nose, and exhale through the mouth with an audible sighing sound – ‘aahhhhh’… The fresh surge in oxygen will instantly refresh your body and brain. Bonus points for getting out into the fresh air for your ‘breathe-break’, and triple points if you can be near moving water – the atmosphere here is naturally super-charged with mood-lifting negative ions!

2. Move
When you move a muscle you move a mood! And yes, sometimes you do need to force yourself to get up and get moving when you feel oh-so tired. Head to the park, go for a quick walk with the kids or get up and do some simple stretches. Whatever takes your fancy, just do it! Even a few minutes of physical movement will boost your energy level.

3. Hydrate.
Your whole body depends on water to survive! Drink water throughout the day to keep every cell, tissue and organ functioning optimally so you’ll have all the energy you need.

4. Rest
Sounds counter-intuitive, but when you need an energy hit, a quick lay down may be just what you need. Simply clear a space and lie down. Set a timer for 10-15 minutes and just rest. When the timer goes off, have a stretch then resume your day feeling reinvigorated and ready to begin again.

5. Essential Oils.
C’mon you knew that was coming right???!!!! Essential Oils compliment all of these top tips for energy beautifully! For example:

– You can use an oil to compliment your breathing technique – simply pop a drop into your palms, cup your hands over your nose and take a deep breath – ahhhh!

– A drop of Peppermint in the mouth before exercise is a great way to open the airways.

– Add a drop of Lemon or a citrus oil to your water bottle for zesty hydration!

– Lavender is great to calm you before your power nap and then grab your wake up oil when you are ready to get going again.

Essential oils really are a wonderful, natural choice for a quick energy burst. Citrus oils such as Lemon, Wild Orange, Lime and Bergamot are best, and well known for their uplifting effect on body, mind and spirit. It’s as easy as smelling your oil straight from the bottle, or dab a drop on your pulse points.

Try filling your home with feel-good vibes by diffusing a few drops of your favourite citrus oils to infuse your home with a positive vibes. (I love particularly love Wild Orange and Peppermint to help me brush the cobwebs away when I’m feeling tired.)
